i have a 99 ex and planning on buying a complete b18c changeover.

i guess i have a obd b2 series engine, if i buy for example a 98 spec b18c (which would be obd2, right?) i read that switching from obd2 to obd1 or vise versa would be difficult and may cause issues, but what about from obd2 b2 to obd2? i'm not really concerned with legality issues. off topic tho, i heard that the 98 b18's were superior than those of the other years? anyone care to clarify this?
i read on HT that i just may run into axle hub probs. should there be anything else that i need to worry about? my goal is to just buy the complete changeover, take it to a place and pay them to install it with the least amount of probs as possible.

p.s i swear i researched wikipedia, ht and other sites, but i just wanted to confirm that there is no jdm gsr that exists. i know the b18c is the jdm itr and the c5 is the usdm itr, and that if there is a corresponding number then it is us based, is this correct? this dooshe from my work said he has one and i wanna make sure he if full of it.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

the jdm gsr is a b18c1, the same as in the u.s. the only thing is the jdm gsr and the itr are both stamped with b18c. if you look at pics the valve covers are different colors. gsr is black, itr is red. there are quite a few sies to pick up a jdm gsr motor. i just purchased mine this past monday, complete swap for 3100. if you can when you do the swap get the axles that come with it or get new axles. if you switch from obd2 to obd2 you will have no problems. good luck man.

Anyone know what the ECU is on the B18C1?

I know it's got the S80 transmission but which ECU does it use? P72? P28?

Yes you're exactly right about the JDM and USDM engine codes. If you boy at work claims to have a JDM ITR just ask him when his VTEC engages, better yet, ask him to take you for a ride. If it's not real, he'll hit his redline before 8,900 which is where the REAL JDM ITR is set. Just tell him to wind it out in 2nd gear one time and watch the tach. There should also be the letter LSD stamped on the tranny, i'm not sure if it's ONLY on the JDM, but I know it's on my JDM.

oh my bad, he said he has a jdm gsr, which does not make sense. i have checked numerous sites and have not found any jdm gsr info. i think in japan there is a sir-g, maybe this is stamped w/ b18c? i'm not sure. is there really such a thing as a jdm gsr? because i have seen other sites that say there are and some that don't

jdm gsr's and type r's are both marked b18c the easiest way to tell is the IM if they are stock gsr will have the dual manifod. or the head stamp type r will be pr3-"x" gsr will be p72

Btw, jdm Integra GSRs are not sold as gsr but as Integra SIR II-G....

Im running a 1996 b18c sourced from japan....another way to check the difference whether its a type r is by simply looking at the intake manifold....

A gsr has a reverse intake manifold with a butterfly throttle

The gearbox is Y80 and has a p72 OBDI/II ECU depending on year

Ya, it's a Y80. THe S80 is the relative turd of a trans that cams in the LS, and that I mistakenly used in my LS swap...
