He had an impressive political stint. I think he'd been involved in MA Politics since I was born.

I just saw that this morning. Is he the last of that generation of the Kennedy's that was alive? I know Eunice died a couple weeks ago.

    RIP

So that's why NPR had a ted kennedy special on this morning....

I missed the news at the top of the hour because I had to clean toilet paper off of my house and cars this morning...

while i am 100% against career politicians, i disagree... there should not need to be a law dictating the term limits of a politician... the voting public should be smart enough to vote out the dead weight

this is why this year and for the next few years i will be compiling a list of incumbents for myself and people i know
i am going down the list and unless the incumbent has done something within their last term that has made me say "wow, this politician is really doing a good job" i am voting against them. and i am going to encourage my friends and family to do the same.
i dont care what party they are a member of
i dont care who is running against them
i dont care what their policies are
i dont care what their platform says they are for
i dont care what they claim to be doing to represent me

if they havent seriously impressed me in the last X years, i am voting against them
and when the next election comes around, i am doing the same thing
and the next, and the next, and the next
and i am going to keep encouraging people i know to do this until all (or at least most) of the dead weight career politicians are out of the system. and all that is left is real people who understand what it is like to live in the real word, who understand that THEY work for US, that THEY represent US, and understand that if THEY do not listen to US, we will toss them out on their ass as soon as the next election period comes around...

i do not want term limits to need to be enforced... i want a voting public that can enforce them on their own... politician is doing a good job? cool then they can stay... if not, toss the fuckers

If term limits are enacted, politicians will make decisions that are best for US . . . not THEM.

In a perfect world I'm against term limits as well, but the state of things has proven that they're necessary. It works for the executive branch, why not the legislative? Can't have old senators just moving to cushy lobbyist positions either, running the show from the shadows... Once your terms are up, you can't be involved in any position that deals with the new senators.

Heck, why not term limit all governmental appointments. Been the forest preserve chairman for two terms? Great job, but time for someone else. Let us know who you recommend, but you can't be involved with the forest preserve in any official manner any more either. We've shown we can't trust ourselves to allow longer (or no) limits.

    RIP Ted.

i guess the thing that bothers me about term limits is: if we (as a public) werent so fucking stupid and lazy, they wouldnt be needed...

but i do see your points and i do agree that with the current mindset of the people, they are needed, because we are too damn stupid and lazy to enforce them ourselves

now how do we go about getting the politicians to vote for a law that kicks them out of their job after X amount of years??

also, you are basing these assumptions on the elections being actual elections.
we all know the one who has the most money buys the election.
    votes dont actually matter.
