Someone who knows what they're talking about give me a run down of what prerequisites need to be in place before vtec kicks in.

engine temp, oil pressure, oil temp?, ecu functions?

I know how it works, I just want to know exactly what makes VTEC work.

ok so what are the settings? whats the oil pressure have to be, whats the engine temp have to be before it works?

Uh, the ecu and the design engineers know. Don't forget about the knock sensor, only God knows how that thing works, lol. You can just bypass all the precautionary devices like those previously mentioned, and just use a 12v power lead and an rpm switch, because vtec is operated by oil pressure and a single solenoid.
