short shifter adapter?

Is a short shifter adapter the same thing as a short shifter? or do i need to buy the adapter and a short shifter?

"short shifter" could mean to things; a physically shorter shifter or a short-throw shifter(though it can be both). Short shift adapters are seen on cable shifters and convert the stock shifters into short-throw shifter.

well actually on preludes and accords u need the adapter in order to put on a short shifter. u can just replace stock shifter with a short shifter wont bolt up right. other cars like civics,integras,crx will bolt up with correct shifter

...No you do not. The adapters simply relocate where the cable mounts(moving the point higher reduces throw). Here's a picture of a adapter on a stock shifter(the grey piece)
