USB Mouse problems

I got a Logitech MX510, I usually have it plugged via USB but starting last night, it started acting up. It would connect and disconnect(make that annoying windows "bing" noise) just randomly...and keep doing it for awhile. Today it got worse, so I hooked up a PS/2 converter and it works fine, for the time being. I had already tried different ports, but same thing happend. What would cause this USB problem? Is it the mouse or the drivers?

My 5.1 surround sound headphones are hooked up via USB also, but they were working fine...

go into safe mode and DELETE everything associated with that mouse.

then clean boot, and plug it in when the OS is finished loading.
