what size sheet metal should i use on my rust repa

i have an 88 crx with the usual rust out back...i found someone who will weld it all up for me but he wants me to pick the metal out....wut gauge sheet metal will i use and if u hav any ideas about how much the metal will cost tell me too

20 or 22 gauge
