i was told that the pcv has gone bad on my sir2 motor cause the mechanic showed me that "what looked like the pcv" was making a noise periodically and when you put your finger on it, when it's making the noise, you can put your finger on the plastic peice and feel some pulsating. Now i tried to follow the instructions out of a haynes for a usdm si motor but it looks like the plastic piece is not ment to come out. What is making that noise and feel from that plastic piece?!!! please, anyone?!!!

So does that even sound like the pcv value is the problem? I was under the impression (from the usdm si books) and the black plastic thing that has a 90 degree angle in it and connects to a vacuum line to the upper part of the manifold was a pcv value that all you had to do was pull up on it and it would come out. We pulled pretty hard and it didn't do anything, infact i reached underneath it and it seems like it connects to another hose which goes into some box to the left (passenger side) of the oil filter. if this black plastic thing is not the pcv value then what is it and where is the real one? I'm pretty sure now, that the reason why i've had to advance the timing even though the cams/crank timing is correct.

Asap Response, Please!!

to be more specific, the black piece of plastic is inbetween 4 and 3's fuel injectors. i can turn the piece about 45 degrees both clockwise and counter-clockwise while pulling up and it doesn't give at all. I'm trying to sell the car this weekend and i don't want to end up messing anything up.

here's a pic to show what piece i'm talking about

Yes that is the PCV. It connects into a recirculating catch can of sorts (the black box next to your oil filter). I have the same motor.

Get yourself a Haynes. I use the
Honda Civic & CR-V Acura Integra
96-00 Civic
97-00 CR-V
94-00 Integra

It has the OBD1 B18 which very very very close to our B16. IDK what chassis u have, but the 00 Civic helps me with all the chassis wiring.

you REALLY have to yank to get it to come out. it's easiest if you remove the fuel rail first, even though it sounds like a bitch taking the rail off.
