questions about rebuilding bottom end with stock components

i have a 88 crx si with the stock a6 bottom end and a y8 head. i'm changing the direction i'm going and am going to be rebuilding the bottom end and using a z6 head. i have z6 rods and pistons that i can install too. i don't want to use aftermarket rods and pistons. i have a couple of questions...

    D16a6 Stock Block Rebuild

i wouldn't rock the y8 head. i'd go with a z6 head. i have the a6/y8 mini me and it needs tuning right off the bat to run right. if i were you, i'd go with the z6 head since the a6 and z6 block are pretty much the same design, besides the a6 being the strongest d series block. but that means...

    D16y8 n/a build

thank you sir. tint's too dark IMO so i'm paying a little extra to have it stripped and retinted lighter. that's 18% so i'm thinkin 28% or so. should look awesome, especially when i get the carbon fiber hood, front lip, and hatch

a6 block y8 head. which arp head studs?

of course man. i hope it all goes well. just curious, why are you going with the y8 head swap?

    distrubtor for mini-me?

yeah i've heard a lot about skunk2 valvetrain. everything bad is about the retainers tho. i could always just rock the stock steel retainers. there shouldn't be an issue since i'll only be pushing the motor to 8k rpm, nothing more than that. if you wanna see my setup, check this out...

a6 block y8 head. which arp head studs?

i'm sure they do. you could always call and ask. you'll have your answer in a few minutes if you just call

    distrubtor for mini-me?

yeah i know man. well it says it has a "zex turbo cam" but zex is comp cams and they only have stage1 and 2 so idk what he means by that. and then it says it has skunk2 springs and titanium retainers. sounds like an awesome deal, but that's not including the dizzy, he wants another 70 for that...

a6 block y8 head. which arp head studs?

no way! don't buy! that's way too expensive. go to the link i'm posting below and order from there. this is where i bought my correct kit. the nice thing is it comes with the extra stud for use with the y8 head, but it still comes with the original complete kit so you can use a z6 or a6 head...

    distrubtor for mini-me?

it doesn't HAVE to be tuned. i'm running my a6/y8 mini me off of a stock p28 which is for a z6. i guess the fuel and timing maps are all wrong, so i'm running rich at idle and lean during vtec. i'm gonna have a chipped ecu soon so i'm gonna try running the right basemap and see how much of a...

    D16y8 n/a build

sorry it took so long, had family in town for my cousin's wedding, but here ya go... the first picture is with my recent tint job and taken with a crappy cell phone, i'm getting it re-tinted lighter soon. the rest are before my tint job...

    distrubtor for mini-me?

honestly, if you haven't tuned before, i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. it doesn't cost too much to have a street tune done. or get your ecu chipped, which i think it already is, and have your chip burnt with a y8 basemap. that's what i'm gonna do until i build everything a little more...

    distrubtor for mini-me?

yeah if you have a chipped ecu, you can run whatever basemap you want. basically, you can run any motor from any ecu. obd1 is the best and easiest to tune and chip, which is why everybody uses that. none of the dowel's would line up, so how could i use them? i did say that i am using head...

    distrubtor for mini-me?

you can run whatever obd1 ecu you want, you just have to run the right basemap. basically, you're running a p28 ecu basemap on your p06 ecu. a basemap is just a stock map another ecu that you can run if you look at the vacuum lines, you'll see it's very easy and not complicated at all. there's...
