If it is throwing code 12 and you don't have EGR than either the ECU is bad or you have the wrong one for that engine. Either way you would have to get a different one. Unless you can chip it like AHHVTEC suggested.

Remove the passenger kick panel and find out what kind of ecu it is. There should be a sticker on the side of it.
