91 SI w/b18 running a little rich

all in all it runs great, no code's coming up and my gas mileage isnt to bad considering its a gsr trans. im not smelling raw fuel, but its a little sooty around my tail pipe and the exaust smell is kinda strong. i dont want to just throw money at the car. any one ever experience these symptoms and what was the solution?

check your timing belt sometimes exhaust vavles open sooner then needed could be off by 2
