I would have personally slapped some enduro tires on that thing before I started a journey like that. props to the desert runs and swamp tackles on a street bike. Sheer insanity.

maybe the water was just in the exhaust; none went through the intake maybe?

Yeah, more than likely since the exhaust is at such an angle it just had some water in the muffler.
