I've been busy lately but I'm back...and the Audi has this problem.

It knocks like a motherfucker and I can't figure out where it's comming from, then again, I haven't relly diagnosed it yet.

The PS pump is starting to go but I've never heard it make a sound like that, the light whining is from the pump, I don't know what the knocking is and it's virtually unnticeable above 4k and doesn't affect power.

Just listen, you'll hear it.

Gimme a min, I'll put the file in.

This car will take thousands of dollars to make it back to what you want it to be. Cut your losses and come back to Honda.

werd couldnt have said it better......audis get to a certain point were everything starts to go wrong and they cost a fotune to maintain. Get rid of it before it breaks u

That's what I was thinking except I'm one broke ass sob right now. I'd be suprised if I could afford a ford fiesta.

My check is like $300/week, $195 of that goes to fines. The rest goes to food, gas and other necessaties.

It like 10k shy of 200k miles. It did it's deed and will be ran into the ground like no other.

The thing is, the car performs just fine, there is no loss in power, no overheating, nothing. This noise just popped up.

Why dont you post this over at one of the many Audi/VW boards?
It might be a common problem for X to come lose and rattle around like crazy......

Either way, Im guessing it will be a bitch to fix.

Just to see... Do yourself a favor... Change the oil with 20w50... If the noise goes away, its something in the motor... Usually if you have a noise at low RPM that goes away at higher, it can be low oil pressure causing loose bearings to make noise...

So I did an oil change just cause it needs it, the fucker needs a whole tune-up but the oil change should be satisfactory for the time being.

The one thing I noticed yesterday that leads me to believe it really is the oil pump is because the oil is sporadically hotter then normal. Normally it's stays around 180*, every now and then it'll shoot up to 220* or so.

I guess it's worth a shot to replace it but I do need to check it out first and find out where the noise is comming from first.

you haev an oil temp guage? 180 and 220 sound like water tempt to me...

Yep, I have the stock oil temp and obviously a water temp...

It's probably closer to 200 rather then 180, I just rounded it off.

yellow is the "normal", it's not a drastic change but enough to bother me.

Isn't this interesting...

I always liked metal shavings, I also love a rod knock in cylinder 6.
