so on the way to work today i was toying with a protege or some shit like that
cruising along at a decent clip and boooffff
there's this loud noise and then a lot of wind...
look up and it looks like the sunroof popped up a little but i wasn't overly concerned...
cruise a little further and decide to see wtf is going on...

look at the top of the car and the sunroof skin is GONE...
wtf...

found it about 20 feet off the road in a little patch of trees...
talked to the guy that was behind me and he said it got lots of air...

not really, suprisingly...

the guy behind me was worried it was gonna dive into/through his windshield, but i guess it just shot straight up and flopped around before finally coming down in the small trees

i honestly thought a window broke or something...
just imagine what it sounds like to have the sunroof ripped off at excessive speeds...
that tinny popping sound followed by a rush of wind...
THHHOOOMMMPPPPP

the sunroof consists of 3 pieces... (86 crx si)
the bottom most is the cardboard-ish headliner
then you have a metal frame, outer box with middle supports
then you have the upper skin

you see the headliner inside the car
and you see the "skin" outside the car
and you're not suspossed to see the frame...

so the skin = the painted top part, just sheet metal really...

uhm...

numerous reasons

old car = some rust, the sealant dried out, excessive speed with the windows open...

i think these factors all contributed...
