Ok, shopping for a tachometer, I have decided I want an autometer 5" sport comp #3905 with shift light. Problem is, these critters are in the $200-$250 range. I can get one exactly like it only it is "Autogage" instead of "Autometer". Same company produces both tachs. The autogage is only $100-$150. So the question is, what am I getting for $100 more dollars? Is it truely just the name?

Shopping around on ebay for tachs, I have found many half decent looking el-cheapo tachometers. I know you get what you pay for, but I also know that you pay for a name. So does anyone have any bad experiences going the cheap route?

Can you mess up a simple insturment such as a tachometer?

honestly the only real differance is the actual feel of durability...
i have had autometer tachs and then a no-name ebay tach..both worked as they were supposed to..its just the autometer will feel a hell of alot more durable..

Yea the no name ones don't last as long but they all work as they should. I got one of those cheap ones at the parts store that you could change the color of the night light with a button on the face and the light went out after like 9 months.

Check this out. Its fugly, but its 70 shipped and has Water/oil press/oil temp in the face.. Could be an awesome thing if it really works... Well, other than the 11,000rpm limit on it, thats a bit silly.

What kind was it? My 90 hatch came with a Timex one that color changes. Works pretty good. It's been in that car for a long time too.

I really hope your kidding, that just screams "i'm a ricer" or "im stuck in the 90's" cheaping buying as stock cluster that comes with a tach.

the stock honda tachs are not even close to being accurate.

i ended up not having the money and forgot about it...
looks to be a good tach though
