i second that... ANY swap into an 85 civic is going to be a major project. is that what you want?? huh?? a MAJOR project?????
if so, yeah anything newer would be a nice improvement. i personally have always liked the idea of taking a d16a6 and its suspension to an older civic....
...not that i have actually done this.
do a search on your year and model and see what other people are doing. several MAJOR older civic projects on this site.
there's a start for you, it might help to know how much $$$$ you can spend.
using pre-made mounts with the engine/tranny/ECU/axles and a lot of wiring you will be spending around $2500 or more to get it done right.
if you tackle this project, which will be sweet when you are finished take a lot of pics and start a thread to help others and get the help you need.
you'll need:
(obviously) a browntop motor
matching trans
ECU
86-89 Integra front spindles (complete)
86-89 Integra axles
86-89 Integra shift linkage
a combo of your stock mounts and 86-89 Integra mounts
84-87 Civic/CRX Si or 86-89 Integra resistor box
84-87 Civic/CRX Si or 86-89 Integra engine harness
84-87 Civic/CRX Si or 86-89 Integra fuel pump (becasue you're going from carb to FI)
84-87 Civic Si fuel lines (or run your own)
some basic wiring skills...the Si's and Integras have a 3 wire ignition vs. your 2 wire. The extra wire is for the fuel pump relay, you'll need to either change out your ignition and add the relay or you can use the stock ign. and add a couple toggle switches and relays (thats what I did with my 85 HF)
I'm probably missing something...but thats the "easiest" swap for the 84-87 Civic/CRX's
set aside a whole afternoon and go to redpepperracing.com. go forth and learn, grasshopper. dont let them tell to just get a newer car. there is just as much potential in an 85 civic. like others have said, it'll take time, research, and of course money.
