So im driving a 91 honda civic hatchback std with a 4 speed tranny, im pushing a major 70 hp......

I need some help. i need some way to atleast get into the triple diget hps.

The most ive ever done is change my radiator and my valve cover gasket.

I want to do a swap. but i need one that would be easy and cheep.

my car has potenital, i know it. i just want to beable to just plain out run my friends stratus, and make ppl respect honda! any help would be great

any swap you do will require you to convert the car from DPFI to MPFI - the easiest and cheapest way to get to triple digits hp is going to be a D-series engine that is OBD0, like a D16A6 from 88-91 CRX Si or 89-91 Civic Si or 90-91 Civic EX or a JDM SOHC ZC non-VTEC or a JDM DOHC ZC - all of those will bolt right in - in order to get the most out of it, you need to use the Si transmission which also bolts right in and uses your shift linkage and axles

i would say the easiest swap would be a d16a6, wich is a stock si motor, if your hatch is a dx the only wiring youll have to do is change it to mpfi, and thats like 7 wires, theres a writeup on this site. and ofcourse you will want the ecu for the 1.6. i think the 1.6 pushes around 110hp

mostly, it is just going to be the cost of the engine and transmission - you will have some other costs, like fluids, hoses, exhaust header (maybe), exhaust work, clutch?, etc. which can add up to more than you would think

the problem with the D16A6 is in finding one that isn't used up and needing rebuilt - rebuilding one is not cheap - if you can find a good one, then the D16A6 would probably be the cheapest - for a JDM SOHC ZC, all said and done, you are probably looking at $900-$1000 - for the JDM DOHC ZC, probably a $1100-$1200 - this is if you do all of the work, including the wiring, yourself

do a search on the forum, search under titles only and in the ef swap section, you will find everything you need

Go with dohc motor. It is a pretty easy swap, only a handfull of wiring changes. There are some good writups on this site. Look up dpfi-mpfi swap. The only real differance is instead of adding 2 new wires to the dizzy you run the wires to the sensor on the exhaust cam.
