VTEC = What RPM?

What RPM does VTEC start in a B18C1 (95 GSR) motor?

I forget about when the secondaries kick in but that was not your question.

It is a stock P72-A05 and a stock motor. I don't have a tach so thanks for everyone's help.

Vtec on my 94 GSR b18c1 engages at 6200, ALL THE TIME EVERYTIME! if your engaging at 4400 check your ecu for a chip, i bought a chip off of ebay that will drop vtec engagement to 4400, and raises redline to 8900

stock usdm b18c1 vtec 6200rpms and redline is 8200rpms..
vtec engagement has many variables it goes through b4 engagement.

Your cam lobes switch over at 4400 rpms. Your secondary butterflys in your intake manifold open at around 6k. That is the sound you hear that you THINK is VTEC. And yes, factors affect the switching of your cam lobes, ie. engine load, temperature, rpm, and oil pressure to name a few. Hope that helps. B)

Yep, you are wrong! VTEC is @ 4400, the secondary butterflies open at 5700 like everyone has said.


FWIW, the ECU needs coolant temp, VTEC oil pressure, vehicle speed, and throttle position to engage VTEC. If will decide when or even if to engage VTEC based on those inputs.

Are you sure it wasn't already chipped when you bought the car? Cal, and like 80 other people already told everyone stock VTEC is 4400 rpm... obviously someone messed with your GSR before you bought it.
