The Hondaswap Canadian
As any of you who own a 5th Gen prelude, you know about the immobilizer. My main key is getting worn out and while it starts the car with little problem, it still is tricky, also it doesnt unlock any of the doors anymore, the valet key will open the doors but obviously wont start the car since it doesnt have the chip. As i am the third or forth owner of the car, the plate with a special number on it for more keys or something is long gone, same with the radio anti theft code (yay).
I went to Honda and priced out a key, they said i would have to get a new immobilizer unit also, thats over $400.... no thanks. However the guy there showed me a trick. If you take off the cover behind the steering wheel and tape that master key to it (permanently keeping it activated, you can start the car with any cut key. I have managed to start the car with the valet key, keeping the master key as close to the ignition as possible, but its a bit hard to get it tweaked.
Before i ask Honda, do you know if i can just get rid of the immobilizer entirely? Or is it something integrated into the ECU or something or too much of a mess to take out? Cause its old enough now that its probably not necessary to really need it anymore.
Any thoughts.
