Hey new guy here. I picked up a 91 red hatchback, for $800 with a swapped D15B1 (runs awesome no tick or noise) and and L3 tranny, been doing some work here and there. I am having a problem with the tranny when i go to shift from 4th to 5th gear it seems to drop into third like the 3rd and 5th are the same gear, the ECU is an pm5 is this the right ECU. i drive 60 miles a day on the highway i would really like that fifth gear, any suggestions would help.thanks daryl

I'd check out the shift linkage. Make sure all the bolts are tightened and that the press pin is in place.

Are you sure it's a 5 speed tranny or a 4 speed? Are you using the correct shift linkage? The shift linkage could be bent, or the tranny could have bad syncros which means it wont go into 5th gear, or very hard to get into 5th gear.

also sounds to me like you have 4-speed transmission - the Civic STD with D15B1 70hp engine only came with a 4-speed transmission

all 88-91 manual transmissions (5-speed, 4-speed and ZC) are L3 transmissions - some 91s were labeled SL3 but still same as L3

not true - 88-91 Civic DX hatch with D15B2 engine came from the factory with 5-speed Manual transmission - only the STD model was 4-speed
