Golden EG
So i just picked up a *new* exhuast for my Eg. Was looking into either High-temp painting the piping black to prevent wear/rust.. Or going the Exhaust Wrap path.

So two questions:

1.Should I High-Temp paint the Downpipe back, minus the muffler?
2. Use exhaust wrap from the Downpipe back?

And if i go with Exhaust wrap, does anyone know how many feet of wrap i should get? Ive never heat wrapped such a large object before. Also, should i use Ceramic, Titanium, or Fiberglass wrap?

thanks!

just paint it

thermal wrap is exactly that... it does not protect against rusting... if anything it probably promotes it
the wrap is going to get wet and covered with grit when you drive on less than perfect days

There are a couple of guys who've disproved that thermal wrap promotes rust(they had rust in the areas where there was no thermal wrap). Though, in the down-pipe/header area it's not really going to get wet unless you're hitting puddles or plowing through snow. Also, this is the header only, which gets hotter than most of the rest of the exhaust system.

Best method would be SS or aluminum piping.

If anything, wrap just the downpipe and paint the rest of the exhaust.

Its a Fujitsubo exhaust, since they dont make these new anymore, its hard to be picky with SS/Aluminum. So ill Wrap my Manifold/Downpipe, and Paint the exhaust.

Is 50' enough for a ramhorn manifold / 3"downpipe? Or is 25' enough..

Thanks guys!

Paint it all and just wrap the manifold, you can wrap the DP but I have never seen anyone do that. They usually just wrap the manifold as it gets the hottest...

Shit, ive even seen people wrap the intercooler piping, both hot and cold side.

So i was just curious as to if i should wrap the downpipe or not.

I thought you said, you was going to run the non turbo motor for a bit, then put the turbo motor in later...

Well ya i am, But im talking about down the road.. I plan to wrap the DP and manifold.

I guess we got a bit off topic. But i got a clear answer now, Thanks.
+1

I havent had the stop, i managed to yank it from the crx, but i had to order a few replacement parts while the motor was out to kinda "spruce" it up a bit. Once the process starts, ill start snapping pics and start a thread.

i would look into the thermal qualities of pur-15
it will def keep your shit from rusting and its said to turn to like a ceramic/glass type of material when it dries

might be like a ceramic coated DP and exhaust
and will prevent the rust

Well I picked up some Flat silver 2000 degree Engine paint. They were out of black, and the silver will make it look good again unless you get real close underneathh.. mehh.

Im gonna spray bomb the exhaust and wrap the manifold/downpipe.

:D
