Question About startup

Well just finished my swap no codes. However when I go to start the car it will never start just using the key. However if you give it some gas it starts immediately right up. What could this be caused by.

sounds like the throttle plate in the throttle body is completely closed - have you tried adjusting the throttle cable to hold it slightly open? does it still have the dashpot on it? the dashpot holds the throttle plate open so that it will idle

Where is the dashpot located and what does it look like. Also I didn't think the throttle cable is suppose to hold the throttle plate open.

the throttle cable is not supposed to hold the throttle plate open - the dashpot holds it open, but a lot of people mistakenly remove the dashpot and that is why i asked - the dashpot is on the front of the throttle body - looks like the picture below - you could also try adjusting the idle screw
