Hey...I am new here but a devoted Si owner. I have approx. 150k on my car and it is time to decide to either do major work or trade/sell it. My question is I heard that they were going to stop making VTEC DOHC engines and my only other option was an imported short-life motor with about a 30k guarantee. - Is this true?

I want to get it fixed. It is worth fixing! BUT I can not seem to find a place I trust with my "baby" here in the south east. The Honda dealership here is NOT an option (trust my BBB complaint and settlement!) I am thinking it needs a valve job at the very least. Can a VTEC be rebuilt? Suggestions?

I came back to add a few of the problems I am having... car is shaking a bit once I hit 80 mph, clutch is fine but at times the engine hesitates almost like it is having problems getting air, thinking it is the cat. converter (not air filter) also it is starting to use a bit more oil than before, a little smoke rarely. It still gets awesome gas mileage and can kick it when I drive anywhere...it just needs some major TLC to last another 10 years! :)

Just rebuild it. People do it all the time. And what do you mean exactly that they're going to stop producing dual-cam B-series VTEC motors? They stopped producing them en masse a long time ago with the 01 Integra. Do you mean they're not going to be making replacement blocks and heads that you can buy from the dealer anymore?

I can smell the fine stench of Mobile Bay...we are neighbors.

Yes, that is what I mean...no possibility of blocks, headers etc...

    huh? no blocks, headers?

no, they aren't going to make B-series engines anymore. they will always have dual cams. unless someone makes a 3 cam or something crazy.

Well even if Honda does decide not to produce replacement parts anymore, somebody else will. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Shit, if they still make parts for 80s Chevy POSs, they'll be making parts for B-series motors for quite some time...

Yeah aftermarket companies will be making parts for sometime to come. Check out what endyn and this other company are working on. They are about to release a b series vtec head that will be less then a $1000 and be better then anything honda released in terms of performance anyways.

Good God your a stupid ricer with no knowledge on how to build anything.......

You just seem to think as long as it is branded by a top company, you need that part or it's good.....You don't need the most expensive parts to have a good reliable build.

    Ya know what forget it....

Well, Blanco...I guess I really deserved that ...stupid female asking questions with zero knowledge. I appreciate your candor. However, I did admit I loved my car but did not know that much about it. If I had the time to spend under the hood of my very loved car I would. I feel blessed to have been smart enough to buy my car and I love drivin' it every day...I can't count the number of times boys/men approach me trying to buy my "sweet" car - so I must be doing something right. All I was looking for was a few answers to some elementary questions. And a possible PM recommendation for a place I could trust near by. I will definitely go to your suggested links...sorry to bore you with my ignorance...

They already produce aftermarket b-series short blocks and heads. Some information on these castings are available, i believe, through The Old One - Energy Dynamics

Hey Blanco, I read thru most of the info. It was a good update. I honestly didn't know the stuff about the VTEC. I would love to learn more in detail than that article offered...definitely time for a repair manual. I was thinking it might be time to find a few classes...my daughter wants to fix up an old t-bird. We are going to get her a clunker before she inherits my Si. I have to be willing to give it up first (she is only 13) - thank goodness I have a few years! I hear ya on the post...if I get defensive about my ignorance it is surely time to do something about it. ;> Thanks sweetie.
