'92 Air Conditioner Problem

More often than not my compressor is not engaged. The unit blows warm air. It does work occasionally & blows cool air, but it usually does not. Is there a sensor that may be malfunctioning, or a loose wire?
Please help.

Usually when it cycles on and off, that means you are low on refrigerant. Take it to a shop to have it leak tested, or buy some UV reactant refrigerant and recharge the system, then take a black light and see if you see anything. Most leaks are caused by O-rings though, so you may not see anything. Your best bet is the shop though.
