Hello again everyone. This time I'm working on my neices 99 civic ex sedan. For some reason I can get the car to start up like its supposed to. When I turn the key everything sounds cherry; no grinding, vibrations, etc. But once I let go of the key the darn thing shuts right down. The only way I can get the car to stay on is by feeding it a lil' bit of gas as I'm turning the key and for a while after I let the key go. My first thought was the fuel injectors, but I know nothing about check'n them or even replacing them. Any info is always appreciated as always.

Check the ignition switch. That could be your problem.

It's probably not your ignition switch. If it was it wouldn't start at all. The starter wouldn't fire. I'm 99% sure it's a vacuum leak. If it has a MAF sensor check your intake for leaks. I don't know if the '99 has a MAF or not. If it doesn't have one check all your vacuum lines and your MAP sensor. I had the same thing happen on my old Ford Escort and it happened to be the intake hose was cracked. The same thing also happened on my RX-7 and it was because my blow-off valve was stuck open.

Moral of the story. Probably vacuum leak.

I've had a couple cars that the ignition switch was bad and would start but when I released the key would die right away. Im not saying that it couldnt be any of those other reasons but dont rule it out just because it hasn't happaned to you...

Did you ever find the source of the problem?
