chip or no chip

I bought a p28 ecu from ebay when I swaped my motor it suppose to have a chip in it how would I know if it does or not can you tell by lookng at it in the inside or do they just reprogram the stock chip

If the chipping was done the right way and not the sleezy way, the eprom should be sitting in a socket of some sort. If it was chipped the cheapo way, then there is no way to tell it was chipped unless a crappy soldering job was done.
