Ok I am looking to get my 92HB up and running. It had a Z6 and I was boosting it and I spun a bearing. I have a spare d16a6 out of a crx si. I was just wondering if there is a diff in the bottom end ? D16z6 vs D16a6:confused: If I wanted to get new rods and pistons what would you go with out spending a shit load of $$$$$. Also I seen the vids of the epic tuning . PPL tell me you only can run 250whp. He get 380+ on a stock d16z6. Is that true??? Thank Wolfy:cool:

380whp on a stock bottom Z6 is going to be pretty much impossible.

There is a difference. The A6 bottom end has pistons with less of a dish than the Z6 bottom- so the Z6 head on an A6 bottom will have higher static compression than on a Z6 bottom. The A6 series is also considered the strongest bottom end out of all the D series engines, possibly because of the oiling on the crank or the material in the rods. I haven't confirmed that myself- I would just run aftermarket rods myself if I were playing with one anyway.

As far as boosting, you'll get significantly more peak power out of a D block under boost on the stock bottom end than you will without boost. If a boost power curve is what you're looking for, it's a very cheap way to make good power. Just don't look for 380whp with it.

And I have to agree with you on mating the two together.

yep drop in the a6 swap the head, and if you really wanna boost it stick with the A6 rods and find you some viatara pistons.

becuz the minimie bumps the compression up..you want low compression for boost setups...
if you are looking at boost then just..build the a6 and drop it in...

Everybody thinks they should go B-series over D-series. And when they do go B-series and its not Vtec, they say go Vtec. But like a lot of people here state "to each his own".

IMO D-series motors are under rated.

    Agreed

400 whp+ potential which can be had for the price of a GSR swap or a B16a swap with bolt ons.

Spoken like a 75 yr. old full of wisdom;)...lol

No really though, you can buy lets say a B18XX swap fora 89' CRX for around $1,500-3500. Whereas you can pick up a D16Z6 for anywhere between $50-400 depending on the condition.

    $1,500
    - 400 for the D
    ______
$1,100 left to build the D

And thats worse case scenario with the money.

    hey

Ok ppl if I was going to build my d16a6 what would be the best parts to get with out spending a shit load of $$$$ viatara pistons, APR studs and what rods? And the best way to tune it? I was using a vafc to tune my d16z6 and it worked out well. Thanks Wolfy:rolleyes:

    * Vitara's- not necessary, your a6 pistons will handle substantial HP gains.
    * ARP studs- A MUST
    * Rods- I would recommend not going cheap on these, they are the weakest point on the d-series motors. Try TT(TunerToys) H-beam rods, pricey but worth it.

I would also recomend a blockgaurd if you plan on running more than 7-10psi. of boost.:D

And a power curve that really sucks balls... but it'll be fun for drag racing, especially if you have really big slicks. :p

Yea I know I was spraying a 50 shot of nos and killing every one that had swap with my stock z6. And I turbo my z6 and it was even faster then with the nos.^_^ Any way I am looking on how to tune it? I might be runing the turbo and nos to cool down my intercooler charge so I can run more boost so I dont have knock.:D I am looking for the best way to tune my car up:confused:
