Depends why the CEL is on. It can be on for a TON of different reasons, and they can each effect a different aspect of how the car runs.

Your best bet is to fix whatever the CEL says is not working properly. Then you won't have to worry about whether you will/won't be running right.

Most of the time a CEL will cause the ECU to go into "limp mode". It'll run rich and yes, it will rob hp and kill your gas mileage.. Best to fix it right away.

wowwwwwww thats explains sooo much.. cuz i bought this car like 2 months ago and the CEL was on when i bought it and the guy i bought it from told me it was just because of a sensor or something cuz he did a b18c swap on it and thers no A/C so maybe i thought that was why it was on but i did start to notice how i thought it was runin rich and it bogs down alot in first and i have noticed gas mileage not as good.. but how do i find out wat the CEL is on for?

Pull up the carpet in the passenger foot area, the ECU is behind there. There is a red LED in the little window in the center of the ECU cover. Start the car and count the number of flashes. There may be more than one code, so it could flash 2 times, then flash 15 times, repeat forever.. Count the flashes in each set and post up the numbers.

My bad man, I have CRX on the brain.

Its under the Passenger kick panel, to the right and below the glove box.. Plastic guard thingamagigger.

But it doesn't have the handy dandy LED like the CRX does. Ok. Lets start churning out some helpful information, shall we?

Did you read up on how to interpret the codes? If it's just one long flash, then I'd say it's probably code # 10, the IAT sensor. Either that, or it's your primary O2 sensor...
