Does anyone have a shift light in their cars? I don't want a monster 3" tach, but I was thinking about getting a shift light in my Escort and since I have a car that revs slightly quicker and smoother, it's a bit harder to keep tabs on.

Where could I find a nice little obscure light that I could install just below my dash, and how could I go about installing it???

Thanks.

Autometer sells just the shift light if you want that, and no it's not rice if you actually use it. My Hondata comes with a shift light option, and it's run off a high intensity LED- I'm going to mount it on top of my gauge cluster.

yeah, i saw them Brian, some were mounted on a 3" tach. :puke2:

i want some model specific instructions on how to hook it up though. idk.

This is mine. Too big imho, but for the price, I couldn't pass it up. It's a ProForm aka ProCrap. The third one I put in works, and I had to wire it off the coil instead of like the ecu wire which the instructions said to use. It flickers a little when idling, but not annoyingly For $30, I think it is a good investment. It'll definately help in the auto-x and drag.

and here's a pic of the first one i had before i returned it. one really really nice thing about it is the adjustability. no expensive pills to buy, and it's very accurate according to my tach.

mmmm.... yep.
bought it *used* from the local speed shop. it was opened and going to be installed on a gsx, but it never happened. so i made an offer and got it. and since it didn't work, they just got their supplier to replace em.

I already said that...

Instead of a light, i remember somebody posting something about a chime when you reach your RPM. I dont have the website anymore though, new comp, but you could probably find something on it if you do a search.

Ryan aka, super rich dude with an evo, supercharged s2k, and a JDMed out rsx, had the chime thing. It is pretty bad ass.

A chime wouldn't work. I'm upgrading my stereo to be slightly louder and more...bass-ish. ;)

I do not understand why people need those things!! Can't you feel the car loosing power at a certain high RPM?

No.

I never could feel when my Escort dropped off at 6600 when it redlined at 7000. :shrug2:

Huh! I dunna know. Always feel my car lose power around 6,300 RPM but I never look! Don't take that chance!

Yours is a DX. and I"m still not used to my SI.

max hp is at 7600 rpm, thats 400 from redline, the point of the shift light is to tell me when to shift, I can program it to light at 7700 rpm and that will give me room to spare if i miss or forget to get off the gas.
