i had to put mine on the floor and zip the flywheel and clutch on...
if you have really long bolts holding the engine you can loosen them to try and get room but this is not a good idea at all...
i did however find a good way to get motors off the stand by yourself...
i just tipped it over so the motor was sitting straight up from the floor, then gently rolled the motor over onto its oil pan and removed the stand...
