GROSSETO, Italy -- In a race between a Ferrari and a fighter jet, score one out of three for Formula One champion driver Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher's Ferrari F2003-GA was a nose faster than pilot Maurizio Cheli's Eurofighter Typhoon in the first race of 600 meters. The plane then easily won at 1,200 and 900 meters in the drag race at a military airport.

"It was an interesting experience," Schumacher said, adding there was a lot less pressure than facing Formula One rival Juan Pablo Montoya.

Cheli did not gloat over winning the last two races.

"Everyone is a prince or king in their own environment," the pilot said.

Tuscany's Baccarini airport featured vintage cars and planes and a military band to entertain thousands of spectators. Six fighter jets flew in close formation and the event was shown live on Italian state TV.

Cheli's jet and the Ferrari lined up on parallel runways and went full throttle when the green signal came, mixing the deep sound of a jet turbine with a high-pitched Formula One engine. After covering the required distance, the jet went airborne and then landed following each race.

Schumacher won the first race in 9.4 seconds, with the jet 0.2 seconds behind. The jet won at 1,200 meters in 14.2 seconds, with the Ferrari 2.5 seconds back. In the final race of 900 meters, the jet finished in 13.0 seconds, with the Ferrari 0.2 seconds behind.

The Eurofighter's top speed when airborne is listed at 1,521 mph; the Ferrari's limit is 229 mph.

Thursday's event was organized by the Italian defense department and hailed as a demonstration of Italian industry.

wasn't there another thing with an f1 car and a jet? but those aren't the same cars... i dunno...

it was about a year ago that they pitted the new Viper prototype (srt10) against an F16 Viper, the SRT10 beat out the jet in the 0-60, 1/8th, and 1/4 mile but the jet took it in the end in the 1/2 mile. :worthy:
 
i used to have the vid of a jet racing a F-1. it was gay, i mean u gotta remember those jets are heavy and take a whileto get up to speed, but needless to say the f-1 owned the fighter jet...

This has been done many times. Here is a vid of a CART racing an f18.

It says f1 but how ever made the link does not know the diffrence.


They did a smilar test with the lafaritdafdasdfxzc? (sp) twin turbo (or was it sc?) corvette vs a boing jet. Same results, vette won (8.9 second quarter mile) then after that, by by vette.
 
Funny thought...these comparisons....

After the cars max out at 150-240 MPH's...the jets remain to keep going until they hit Mach 3 +........and sometimes...they never max out......

Unless they hit the V-max switch :ph34r:
 
coming from someone whos brother flys F15s...

he said his fully stock Stealth R/T "aka 3000GT VR4" felt about the same as a jet only differance is the jet keeps going and going and going where the car after 80mph or so stops making that hold you in the seat feeling the jet just keeps it up

I still can't figure out why so many tv shows and newspapers put wow race car VS jet!!! viper VS jet!!!! F1 VS jet!!!! who gives a fuck its been done before I think they even had a jet powered 18wheeler VS jet.....

I think they should put a car on a aircraft carrier and see if it can keep up with an F14 =)

at LUke AFB here in AZ, they had a viper race an f16. was pretty cool, but the viper killed it off the line :whatafucktard:

ithink they said the f16 did teh 1/4 in 3-4 seconds.. can;t remember for sure though..
 
1/4 mile in 3-4 sec? haha not from a dead stop
 
ehh, maybe he beat the viper by that much? i don't know, 3 seconds was in what the annoucer was saying somewhere.. it was a year ago and i just got off a 13 hours shift moving christmas tree's around all day, gimme a break :)
