some chevy owners don't care about the car. they would have sex with an ss badge if they could best a nut with it.

musclecars were definetly under rated but no stock car made 800hp. The factory aluminum 427 coded ZL1 was rated at 425 but truly made close to 600. And that put in a Vette or Camaro was ONE OF the fastest cars in the sixties. The mopar thing you're talkin about was where a few teams from each camp were supposed to have used completely stock cars that represented the best of each brand to settle the ford v chevy v mopar battle once and for all. only problem was the cars where setup for nostalgic drag classes where the engine only had to appear stock and internals were modified. And the reason they could only muster mediocre (by todays standards) times where not only how heavy they were but how terrible the suspension was as well. They could go fast but limited to a four speed it wasn't all that fast. But then again who wants to go 150+ with drums on all corners or at best 10" discs up front for brakes.

don't forget about tires. street tires from the 60's are downright laughable by today's standards.
