In mid December, Honda entered the history books by becoming the first ever, automotive manufacturer to produce its own certified aircraft. And on top of that, the HondaJet airframe is also powered by Honda. The super-efficient HF118 turbofan engine powered the HondaJet on its first flight test on December 16th 2003.

In addition, Honda has also finished its production prototype general aviation engine for Continental ( the largest general aviation producer of recipricating engines ) The 6 litre horizontally opposed 4 cylinder, produces 220 hp and redlines at a blistering 2450 rpm. Realize that the specific output, while very small by automotive standards, is pretty decent for aviation. Designers say that the next Honda G/A engine will probobly be a high revving, small displacement engine with a reduction drive to keep the propeller speed low.

Old article, couldnt find a good new one in the limited time i looked

BTW: first certified production aviation DOHC engine with 4 valves per cylinder.

Lots of other good ideas from the automotive world, worth checking out. Most engines on small airplanes now are 1950s technology. Its retarted how the aviation industry cant keep up with the automotive because of the cost of certifying for aircraft use.
