Could be hydrolock. Was there oil in the threads or in the bottom of the hole?

i have the same problem when changing out intermediate shafts! you can unbolt it but you mess up the threads when bolting it back on! i even have to shim the bolts cause it wont bolt all the way in. when you find an answer to the problem let me know! lol

you are not supposed to reuse head bolts. after they are installed they stretch, since they stretch they are no longer the right size and you are supposed to use new ones. ARP studs dont do this and they are reuseable.

Ummm... isn't that the stock head "bolts" your not supposed to re-use? The reason why people get these head "studs" is for the fact that you can re-use them. Well and they are stronger too.

he's right... ARP are the only studs i know of that don't stretch... but studs usually don't stretch out that much. my guess is that you go it cross threaded or didn't use anti-seize.
