A mate built a D16A7 with D16Z6 head and now he has oil pressure problems, so much so that VTEC disengages above 6500 rpm, anyone had this before?

    Try these:
Hook up an oil pressure gauge and tell us what the pressure reads
    New oil filter
heavier weight oil (just go one step up)

Did he remove the oil jet from the block?

How new is the oil pump? Is the screen on the oil pump pickup clean?

Yes he did, it's on his work bench....(-: Car made good power at 8000 rpm , once, then lost VTEC at 6500. Strange one, never had it before.

How's the oil pressure sender? What about the filtering material on the vtec solenoid?

Bench test the solenoid before you replace it.

Also, check to ensure that the ECU is powering the solenoid at the proper point. It could be a burned out ECU component.
