i am in the midst of getting a used car. i am not a gearhead or that interested in tweaking out a car for performance! however, i have found a 97 prelude for sale in my area and wanted to know if i could get some input from the forum. here's the info:

1997 Honda Prelude - Black w/black interior, 120k miles, pw, pdl, pm, sunroof, spoiler, automatic w/ sport shift, Sony fold down dual display am/fm/xm cd player w/remote, pioneer interior speakers, H22A VTEC engine, cold air intake, 4-2-1 headers, high flow catalytic converter, 5in muffler, Front upper strut bar, new accel plug wires, new distributor cap & rotor, new iridium spark plugs, New Konig 16" Rims w/ new Hankook tires, M3 style mirrors, Greddy front lip, new rear brakes, oil changed every 2500 miles, mostly highway miles, good condition.

after emailing him, this is part of what i got back "Timing belt and water pump are both done. Both front axles and ball joints have been replaced, serpentine belt, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor all done at the same time. The car is smoking a little becuse it
needs valve seals and my mechanic says that'll run about $200-$300."

are there anythings that i need to look out for in terms of checking the car out before i buy? the valve seals have me a bit concerned ...

PLEASE, ANY INFORMATION IS REALLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!

    tia,
    will

when it comes to preludes (especially 5th gens like that one) smoking is part of the game. most people actually burn about a quart of oil between oil changes. for some reason vtec (meaning when you drive at over 5,000 rpms) just likes to eat it for breakfast. Replacing the seals helps, but it never actually FIXES the problem. Really, your oily choice is to deal with a little smoke at really high rpms or not buy a prelude.

kellys is the best a consumer has to use. but being in the industry, yeah, edmunds is a great resource and its fast.
