need info on gear ratios

need to learn on how do i do the "math" on gear ratios.
i should be putting down at least "450 to 500whp" after my setup is done.
with that kind of power i will fly trough the gears extreamly fast so i need to findout how to go calculate what my gear ratio should be.or some help on where i can go to learn how do do it myself if non of you "MotorHeads" can tell me what you think it should be.thanks in advance for all positive info

Thanks so much for that info i needed that.
now let me see if i got this right.
on the h22a 1st gear is 3.31 same as the h23.
now 2nd gear is 1.95 for the h22a and 1.807 for the h23.
if i were to make my second gear for the h23 1.825 would that mean that i can hold that gear much longer?there for if i shift at 8500 from first to second my rpms should drop to approx 4000 rpms or so right? because once i get the concept i plan an playing with 3rd and 4th.if am wrong about everything please help me out on this am trying to get this thing up and running by next summer.Thanks in advance for all positive info.
