What going to be a hard swap, take a lot of money, be stupid torquey, have about 3-400 hp, and match the coolness of the body kit and wheels on the car. Think steroids....in my 87 CRX...

Drop some D Series SOHC motor in there and play with that. I recommend a Supercharger for it. Least expected from a D series then go and make fun of them when you wax. Make sure to get some STICKY ass tires or you will spin for some time.

Ya know this will cost money but it would destroy all. B20b block with B16a head, supercharged, with the AWD diff so your car will be all wheel drive. Get it built up and the light car will be GONE. will need body work but can be done.

    Looking to maintain any handling?

I'd vote a heavily built b20 with a ridiculous amount of boost.

Mount the K series in the middle of the car then fab it up to be MR . No idea how it'd work though. I don't even know if it'd be possible.

^^^that's a great idea, and might be easier than mounting that K under the hood.

doesn't the 87 rex have a rear axle though, not IRS? so when creating your subfame/integral roll cage, you could address that too.

or instead of the K series, NS/CRX.

just seems stupid... the CRX was made to be a corvette killer on a course, not a 5 second 1/4 mile rocket.

well, I have the rebuilt D15A3 in it now, and I have the duel carb adapter...and looking at some of the other builds...that can get about 180hp, and remain light...and I can prolly do a blow thru turbo setup to get into the 220hp range...and still remain light.

But I'm also looking for reliability, I might DD it a few times. And starting off with a fresh motor that already has torque and HP from the get go with a decent swap would put me in a better position.

I'm with 'em. B20 to start. Vtec conversion later. Boosted once you know how much more you want. A B20 in your Rex is going to be a monster. It moves my Civic, so I can only imagine what it would do to your CRX. Gradually build it to what you want until your content.

You won't find a motor with more torque for the money. And they are just as reliable as any other Honda motor.
