Hey guys,
I've primarily been a domestic fanboy since the beginning, but one day I had the dream of making a street legal go-kart of sorts, so I got to owrk on making it reality. The criteria I came up with were: Fast (duh), Light, Small, Excellent Handling, Decent Looking. I'm not sure when I first came across CRXes or where I got the idea to modify one, but it was really apparent that a CRX fit the bill.
It didnt take me long to find a CRX for sale. Here she is:
A 1988 CRX Si. This thing is beat, but it doesnt appear to have been in any accidents, and it has no record of any. It was originally a Louisiana car so it has minimal rust. The engine is a B18a swap, whihc was recently re-built, but not broken in correctly, so the piston rings cause the car to smoke at idle. The pistons still hold compression though. It has a brand new clutch, Eibach Sportline springs, and front and rear strut bars. The interior is completely screwed, but no worries, I'll be tearing it out anyway.
The Body/Interior (I like clean, clean, clean.) My plans are to strip the body down to sheet metal, fix any problems with whats going on underneath, during this process I will also be relocating the gas fill nozzle, welding the gas door shut, shaving the door handles, and welding the doors shut. After all of that is done, I'm going to lay down a fresh coat of paint. Next: the interior, its all gotta go! The seats are broken, so I'm going to replace them with some fixed position seats. The dash has to basically be remade, theres no heat, no a/c, no radio, nothing in this car, so any/ all remnants of those things need to be filled in, so I will fill 'em in and fiberglass the whole thing. Now the rest of the interior is going, bare sheet metal is my friend here.
Now for the engine. I'm not sure which direction I'm going with this one. I'm either going to keep the B18 and work with it, or swap it out for an H22 (I'm really leaning toward the H22 on this one.) But I really need to explore my options as to what I want to do.
EDIT: My ultimate goal is 13s or better
This will be my project car until it's finished
