Pushing for more Open Source software

    I've dealt with this guy, he's really pushing for the DoD to get away from Microsoft. It's pretty cool to see that the people in charge actually see the big-picture, and not just that "we need to buy miucrosoft."

    It's a good read, if you work in the IT/IA field, even in private industry, I suggest reading it.

    Things would work better if the civilian side of the house didn't get half way through implementing a COTs system and then scrap that build for something "better". Also switching between distributed and consolidated management really screws things up a bunch as well.

    Agreed. I figure this guy will meet 3/4 of his goal, then they'll force him into retiring.

    Just got word that he's getting another star, which means he's going to go somewhere else. :(

    I hope the next guy shares the vision.

    Little to no chance of that. Changes in Administration usually force good people to move on due to not sharing the same vision as the new guy. The Dept. I work for just lost a lot of uber high managment a few months ago.
