If there had been a s40 t5 awd listed in any of the classifieds, I probably would've bought it had I known about these kinds of upgrades and looks. I had seen some of the first pics before and heard of the performance of the s60 but the dinky s40 fwd's weren't cutting it.
 
the silver and matte blue car i posted are s40's... the first blue one is s60.

basically the same, one is just slightly bigger and slightly heavier.
im more a fan of light and small cars so im going s40.
the bodystyles in the pictures didnt start until 2004.5, the s40's before then look a bit different.

AWD doesn't put 25% of the power to each wheel. The large tires in back adjust it's thresholds of grip before throwing power back to them.

I also may put pins on my car, and I was going to put pins on the CRX (With my new radiator design, I had to remove the nose to get to it)

And when I go turbo SR20 in the NX I'll need the room up there as well.

i remember posting tons of which car threads before i settled on the s40.. i still have second thoughts damn near everyday. i still love the vw r32's :cry:

i guess it will all be settled when i finally drive the damn s40, hope im not dissapointed:D
 
you havent even driven it yet? Ive driven the tiptronic version of the T5 and its hawt. I dont know how good the steering response is...i didnt really get to drive it, but it felt peppier than the S60 T5. (My dad used to work for volvo of richardson)

still havent 100% decided on awd or fwd either. i want something besides fwd, but volvos awd is not that great and its still predominatly fwd. it weighs 150 lbs and fwd would be like 3 grand cheaper.

then again after modding i think the awd system will help with traction, no matter how shitty it is.

decisions decisions.

Micah, you have no idea man. I have so many fucking cars in my head I want, it's not even funny.
The cars I have been looking at are:
350z, G35 Coupe, WRX, A4, S40 T5 AWD, MazdaSpeed Mazda 6, VW GTi (the new ones coming out soon), 9-3 Sport Sedan, and the VW R36 (i'll have to wait till mid 2007 for this tho)

The cars I have narrowed it down to:
S40 T5 AWD, MazdaSpeed Mazda 6, 9-3 Sport Sedan, and the R36....

choices, choices, fucking choices...

I actually don't plan on purchasing any of these cars till early 2007 but my mind changes often, only time will tell :sighs:
 
yeah your list is siminlar to mine, but your missing some mercs, bmw's, evo, sti, cts.
my only stipulation was that it needed a backseat.

i fell in love with the new volvos when i first saw that blue s60r and that musta been almost 2 years ago. seems like it anyway, had a poster of the silver s40 on my wall for a year now :p

non of the merc's interest me, the base model 325 is almost at the tip of my budget and if i'm gonna buy a BMW, it sure as hell isn't gonna be a base model lol, The EVO's are way too over priced for me, the new STi looks like complete and utter ass (that's why I left out the WRX in the list of cars I narrowed it down to) and as far as the CTS goes, I never really looked at it much.

I need a back seat now because of my son that's why the 350z went off the list.
I'm most likely going to tough it out till the R36 gets here but you never know, if I find a deal on a car I like, I might just jump on it :mrgreen:

any other cars you were looking at Micah? Give me some suggestions...
 
im getting a new car for the exact reason. need a backseat for the kid.

as far as the bmw's go i was looking at the 330's or 95sh m3.
the cts is an awesome car. the cts-v is pretty expensive but comes with like 400hp v8. they look cool done right, i dunno id just feel like an old man driving a caddy.
and i agree the new sti's suck :p
nowadays you can get a decent evo with low mileage at a good price.
i even nodded at an srt-4 for a min. its the fastest car you can buy for 20k, i just seriously cant get over the fact its a neon :|
the scion tc is a cheap car, 15-20ksh and is super nice. i love the styling of it. its not very fast, but not too slow.
i mean your pretty much looking at the same cars i was. there was a post i made with a huge list at one point, ill try and find it.

Racer, have you driven a SPEED 6? Its pretty weak sauce. not even in the same category of an Evo or STi. NO WHERE CLOSE.

I guess we are in the exact same boat lol I like the M3's but I figure my next car purchase is going to be a car that i'm going to keep for 5+ years so i'm going to make sure it's exactly what I want and it needs to be brand new. it needs to be new because i'm trading in my current Golf and i'm not gonna trade in my 04 Golf that I bought brand new for a used, older car. That would be just plain stupid lol. A big reason for the purchase is that it needs to be fast, that's why I haven't looked at the Scion's or the Saturn's and shit like that. and I definately won't get an SRT-4, it doesn't look like a safe enough car for my son to be in. I'm gonna check out that thread right now... oh BTW- You got on info on the R36? VWVortex doesn't really have shit right now...

Really? Are we talking about the same car? I was reading an article on it and I figured that AWD 274hp should be able to hang around the Evo's and STi's... The main reason I won't buy a Evo is because i've always had problems with the Mitsu's i've had in the past...I guess i'm biased towards them now.

EDIT: I can't believe they gave the S40 such a bad review... guess it's back to square one since was leaning towards getting that. looks like I might just end up waiting for the R36 after all.
 
well it wasnt necessarily a BAd review, just average.

also the new platforms came out in 04.5, so the review is of a brand new platform, which as we all know, theres always problems with cars in the first years of its production.

im hoping the 05-06's did a little better.
