    Kinkisharyo LRT(Light Rail Train).

My vehicle on my new job. I'm an operator for the Hudson Bergen Light Rail System. I'm still in training but I've been actually operating them for about a week now. I love it. I'm sure it will get old eventually but right now it's a blast. Just thought I would share.

ROFL Four years of drinking, debauchery, and a marketing degree and you are driving a bus. That's funny. Not bagging on you, it's just ironic. Although, in Jersey, you're probably making as much as an entry level business salary.

During training it blows. 9/hr times only 40hrs a week. Then 15/hr for a 6 month probationary period. Then 22/hr after that.

While the straight pay isn't the best, my good health benefits are in addition to pay, not taken out of it, there is PLENTY of overtime that the Senior operators don't want for some reason, and I ride NJ Transit for FREE(minimal commuting costs). Not to mention the Union is renegotiating the contract so I will be getting more than 22/hr when I'm actually done with the probation. Plus, I get a 401K with a match. No pension but from what I'm told the 401K is one of the best available.

Communications degree actually. But yea, I basically had fun for 4 years before the real world. And while the drinking has slowed, the debauchery will never end.

But in all honesty, I couldn't find a job in Communications I wanted at any salary. And I'm really just not the office type. I count the seconds until I get to go home. I would kill myself in under 5 years.

My group that's training with me comes from all walks though. Previous jobs of the others are Clerical, an NJ Transit bus driver, a Toyota mechanic, a former Wachovia appraiser, a minimum wager, and a pharmacist's assistant. Then there is me, the frat boy straight out of college.

One of the Senior Operators says it's like stealing money. I literally have to try to get fired.

URS Washington Division. Look it up. They are contracted by NJ Transit to operate and maintain the HBLR. Not to mention Light Rails are popping up everywhere. Baltimore, Boston, DC, Cali, just to name a few.

Looks like a good job for the long run. My dad's neighbor is a metro bus driver. He made around 65k after taxes last year and he's only been doing it for a few years full time.

I don't plan on staying an operator for more than 5+ years. And that's the absolute longest. URS is a HUGE international company and since this division is less than 10 years old upward mobility is very easy. My supervisor/trainer has only been with the company for like 2.5 years.
