VTEC= the camshaft has a "dormant" third lobe for every cylinder, the valvetrain also has a third hydrolically actuated lifter for evey cylider that coincides with the lobe. At a given rpm(specified by the ecu) the third rocker is actuated which engages the third lobe which has larger specs. Effectively allowing more air/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber, resulting in more power. That's it. If you understand this then have fun playing with vtec; if you can't understand then either sell your tools or your car.
