I am new to the forums and I had a few questions about a motor swap.

I am buying a 92' hatchback shell and I wanted to drop a mean powerplant into it, but it's also going to be a daily driver. I was originally thinking about dropping a GS-R swap into it because I want something with VTEC. I hear that the GS-R head doesnt have the most amazing flow, BUT porting and polishing the head could make up for this. (If I'm not mistaken.) I also hear that the B16 head has great air flow and could possibly be cheaper than porting/polishing the GS-R head. I am thinking about putting Integra Type-R transmission and pistons into the build.

I would like to know if this setup is going to be the best bang for the buck or if going a different route (maybe a B16A w/ upgrades?) would be more ideal. OR, if there's any other options I could go with to have a good ammount of power and VTEC.

Which axles would be best to go with this type of swap?

What about passing emissions?

Also, money is not too big of a deal. And, I know people say that a K-Series swap would be better if money is no option, but I want to go with a B-Series engine and keep it old school.

Any of your knowledge is highly appreciated.

Thanks alot!

from what ive read, PnP isnt quite what its cracked up to be.
and a b16 head would be cheaper, unless you do it yourself.

well the best bang for your bck is almost always a turbo setup. what are your power goals with this car? and what is your budget?

A GSR powerd EG hatch in stock form will be a really fun daily. If its going to a daily there is no reason to have any sort of internal or head work done to it. And the GSR tranny is a really good tranny. The LS trannies have long gears, good for high MPG, but poor accel. B16 trannies have short gears, so just the opposite of the LS trans, quick accel and poor MPG. The GSR is a combo of the two, good accel and MPG. As far as axles, the stock GSR axles will be just fine for your application. Smog Im not so sure about, just because I dont have it where I live.:D Hope this clears some stuff up for you.

I'm not looking for a turbo setup. I want all motor that can take a boosted car! Haha. Ill look into a GSR swap more.
Maybe i can trade the higher gears out of a type-r trans for better gas saving?

An N/A built to beat boosted cars isnt going to happen, unless your Bisi. But a stock GSR in an EG will be plenty trust me, I have a B16 in my EF and even with an LS tranny it supprises people how quick it is.

i can think of about 20 things i would rather spend the same amount of money from a pnp.

you'll spend about $15k doing it. then they are going to turn up the boost another couple psi and beat you.

pretty much. get a gsr or ls swap and go from there.

don't be a "i need mad VTEC Y0" ricer. for the cost of a gsr, i could build an all motor ls that will smash it.

You shouldn't have much of a problem with emissions. Just keep track of what stuff you're putting in your car. If I remember correctly, You'll want the P72 ECU to get your vehicle BAR certified. And as long as everything is tuned correctly you should be good.

Read up on your state's regulations though, Colorado is going to be different from Cali. Everyone's got their own thing. Good luck!
