Crazy Girl (Kasey)
I think I may have thrown a rod in my 00 si while driving in this morning's rain. Stupid CAI...

I heard a loud bang and there was oil under my car, so I'm pretty convinced that it was the rod.

I've been out of the car scene for quite some time (I'm in the motorcycle scene now) and no longer have any real hook ups or ideas of where to take my car.

Are there any decent places to go where I can get another reliable stock b16a2?

I'm in the Orange County, CA area... Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried checking local classifieds like Craigslist or reputable junk yards? I'm not familiar with CA, but over here they have warehouses that stock used engines and offer warranties for them. One of them is used engine transmission Toyota Honda Mazda Mitsubishi Nissan Hyundai ; they'll have to ship but they're very reputable people, great prices, and have good service. If you lived around here you can actually go over there and pick which motor you want yourself. Another place that carries just JDM motors, and is around Cali IIRC, is www.hmotorsonline.com

Thanks for the heads up. I knew of some places back when I was a car nut (late 90s, early 00s. I don't know the actual names of the junkyard... we would refer to it as the "JDM Junkyard". lol.. so that doesn't really help.

I just blew my si not too long ago and had no luck finding another b16a2 in Cali. You could order the b16a sir-2 for 1100 and all you have to do is use your manifold, your oil pump, and rewire the distributor. It's hella easy plus you get 10 extra hp and hella low miles. Best place IMO to order your motor.

How does that work with registration, etc. I thought having the JDM motor made it difficult to pass smog visual inspections or something...?

Where did you end up finding your new motor?

You can pass with a JDM motor, you just need to use your USDM ECU and all of the emissions components that came with your car and were on your engine.

while hmotors offers greats engine, there hp/tq figures can be misleading. the usdm and jdm b16a2 are virtually identical. the 10 extra horsepower comes from the fact that the numbers from the jdm engines are achieved while running japans super plus gas through it. our premium is 93, there premium (super plus) is 100 octane.

Oh i thought it was because b16a had a tiny bit higher compression. I never thought of that though. hmm...but yeah anyways like i said you just have to use your manifold, crank sensor off the oil pump, and rewire the distributor and you are good to go. If you were to swap out the ecu for the p30 and use the exact long block you ordered is when you run into problems with smog.

thats not true they use a differnt system to determin there oct.

:werd:

We use the (RON+MON)/2(or seen as (R+M)/2 on the pumps) system(AKI for us), while they just use RON.

Typical figures(not accurate so don't reference them):
100RON= ~95AKI, 98RON= ~93AKI

I may look more into a JDM motor then. It just seems like the b16a2 is impossible to find right now. I want to keep my car stock since it has become a daily driver (after being arrested for street racing, I really don't want to get near the car scene again...I'll stick with racing sportbikes on the track from now on).

I just want what I blew... try to maintain the best mpg possible and not draw unwanted attention.
