Question about Ex-Girlfriends

You know what, me and rach split up around the same time you two split, I cut her off 100% deleted anything that reminded me of her and took down anything around my place that had anything to do with her. I made a point to go out and also had my share of dates.

cut her off and move the F on. Cut her off like a band aid, the faster the better.
 
This situation seems to cause more pain than happiness. I agree with B bounce out yo.

my thoughts on this: get her out of your mind for five minutes and do this: you gotta take some time and visualize what kind of relationship will make you happy; define it, list what it is like, and what it isn't like; what happens, and what doesn't happen; what you will tolerate, and what you won't.

then apply everything you know about her, you, the past, and present sitch. then put your motherfucking foot down and say to yourself and her too, 'i will only have relationships that make me feel x and allow me to y. anything else is wasting my time.'

after you've made that abundantly clear to yourself, and to her, check reality against your ideal relationship; if it isn't an 80% match, tell her to hit the fucking road and piss up a rope.

if you aren't capable of this, you're still willing to suffer entirely too much for da poon, and as such, deserve to eat ham with the drama llama.

As for me the "friend" thing with the ex is working pretty good. We actually did hook up last night but we both made it very clear that is was in no way romantic, but rather purely sexual. I actually get along with her better as a friend, it's weird.

However, last night might have been calculated, haha, because now I'm dead tired. Enough to leave my internship early and not go on my date, haha.

It was my idea for us to hang out last night. I was just making a bad joke. I actually forgot I had to be up early for my internship today.

As for the date... eh, I've known this girl for awhile. She's cool but a few years older than me. She already seems to be settled into her 9-5, go home, eat, watch American Idol, and go to bed lifestyle. Like I've said before, it's not that I'm attracted to crazy people, but normal people are fucking boring.

School starts back up next week. I'm sure I'll find a few girls to take to dinner pretty quick.

This is one aspect, I failed to mentioned in my original post. If it helps you, write things down. I made an entire list of what I wanted out of a relationship, when I wasn't sure I was with the right girl, over the summer, and if I liked the way the relationship was making me feel and the person I was turning into.

Writing things down is a way of grounding yourself and constantly reminding yourself.

Very effective when I make other goals, as well.

Years and years ago I used to say "piss up a rope". This was during the mid 1990's. Was the song around back then? I don't remember where I heard the saying but it stayed with me for quite awhile. People, somehow, didn't understand it back then.

+1, it makes shit feel real and possible. it's also affirming, like you're kinda making a contract with yourself to want good things, and to hold yourself accountable for keeping yourself in situations that don't deliver what you've already told yourself you want or need.

and hey, great sex can be on the list. but mutual respect, no cheating, and other crap like sushi sundays can be too. it's your list. it's your life. kinda cool, that way. it also gives her something to try and measure up to; a set of defined expectations and desires. if she wants to be your girl, she has to measure up. there can be pride in that. or she can just be a hooch. but at that point it ain't up to you. that's allll her.

What the hell, I'm gone for a few months and this turns into hondaswapdatingadvice.com. I will never understand why people get on forums asking for relationship advice from people whom most of them they don't even know. Whaaaa my girlfriend and I broke up and we still hook up and I love her and I just don't know what do to, whaaaaaaaa I love her man, I love her. Seriously only you know what's best for you. THink of the reason why it didn't work out the 1st time. Is it likely that reason will appear again or did ya'll work it out. If so then do what slushbox and myself would do, keep it friends w/ benefits while you shop around or play around.
 
The fucked up part is were better friends than ever and the sex is incredible. It was great before but holy shit.
