My 95 Civic EX Coupe Auto recently started surging while idling. It suddenly goes from about 500 rpm to about 1,000 rpm for no reason at all. It's cycling like that every 4-5 seconds. There's no check engine light, and I don't know how to check for codes. Anyone have an idea where to start...
If the bellows are torn there is a good chance that the inner tie rods are shot. Check them for play. If there is any replace them.

I know what you're saying. I have to replace my bellows because they're beginning to look a bit worn out, and I don't want to ruin my PS rack. So...
:D Hondas: I need to replace the rack and pinion bellows (the accordion-like rubber seals at each end of the rack) on my 95 Civic EX Coupe, since they've begun to tear up. Does the rack need to come off the car? Or is removing the tie rod ends enough to get them replaced? Other than that, this...
Thanks all VERY much for the info. What's a CEL? A better description of the problem is that when you hit the gas to take off, it acts as if it's running on three cylinders. If you lift, it recovers, but then you're not moving. So it's tough to get going. I did check and rechecked the timing. I...
The car is a totally stock 95 Civic EX coupe. D16 SOHC motor. I just replaced the head gasket, and the car idled fine, no problems. When I first drove it after the hg repair, I noticed a hessitation taking off, below 2K rpm. And if I stabbed the gas, it would shake or stumble for the first few...
Hey, all. I just replaced the head gasket on my 95 EX Coupe, as it had overheated on the previous owner and I bought the car to fix. I used all new Honda parts, including the headbolts and headgasket. I also had the head pressure tested and milled (about 5 thou) by a shop with excellent...
The car is a 95 Civic EX with a 4 wire O2 sensor. In the process of removing the exh. manifold, my friend pulled too hard on the O2 sensor wires, instead of using the plastic connector. The wires came right off, and now I don't know where the wires go. Can anyone tell me where each wire plugs...
Thanks to those still following this thread. It's a 95 Civic EX Automatic. I finally took the head off, and was surprised to find a metal head gasket in there. As you'll remember, I got the car for cheap after it overheated on the previous owner. When I got it, it would crank but not start. And...
Thanks, Space, but I really hope to have this car on the road within a week or so. Only delay so far has been gathering all the info and ballz to tackle the crank pulley. Do get in touch once you're in Phx, maybe I'll see you around the Pavillions on Sat. night.

Got new Honda headbolts already. I'm not going this far only to have one of them break or go loose on me later. I'm not doing this again, if I can help it.
I'm having no luck in pulling the lower timing belt cover. All the access. belts are off. I removed the driver side motor mount, and according to the Chilton manual, the engine would have to be supported by a jack to keep it from dropping too much. I'm assuming that once the engine drops, I can...
My bad. I meant CO. You make a few good points there. But at some point, one has to idle (even at the track). I should have mentioned I thought we were talking about turbo'd cars, where no exhaust restriction is higly desirable. On normally aspirated cars, some back pressure is good, the way I...
Removing the exhaust system is a band-aid approach. If you have a quality, unrestricted exhaust system, there won't be any benefit by removing it. Besides, running stright out the downpipe is not just loud, it could expose you to poisonous CO2 emissions.

I'm totally new to Hondas and a newbie on this board, so I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before. I did look around the help and faq's before posting, so please bear with me.
I recently got a totally stock 95 Civic EX (D16Z6) automatic coupe with a blown head gasket. The...
