94-95 A3 to 99-00 A2??

Why exactly did honda make the 94-95 Del Sol Vtec a B16a3 and then in 99-00 name the B16 an a2? wouldn't it make more sense to make it go in cronological order so the 99-00 Si would have had a B16a4???

I think i heard of there being such a thing as an a6, but is there any cars out there with a B16a4, or a5?
