The World Series of Poker is back on July 19th from 8-10 pm EST and continuing on each following Tuesday until August 16th from 9-10 pm EST on ESPN? Any predictions on the winner?

Nope. lol

Hey you ever get a hold of your bank? I still got the radio if you want it... ;)

Poker is lame lol and i bartend in a room for about 10 poker tables, so i have to see it everyday. it just looks like it would get old..

could not possibly give less of a fuck

for real man
i mean what the fuck
how can you sit there watching people play fucking cards on TV and not be forced to seriously re-evaluate your life (or lack there of)

thats worse than watching golf on TV
thats worse than watching bowling on TV
thats worse than watching pool on TV
fuck its worse than watching darts on TV

they are sitting there playing fucking cards
that is literally almost as exciting as watching paint dry.... ON TV

ive played holdem... i think it sucks... i much prefer blackjack
but still im not gunna watch people play it on fucking TV

:ghey:

however...

when actually PLAYED, (golf, bowling, pool, poker) they're OBVIOUSLY more fun (to some)

so, knowing that you enjoy it, can make it more enjoyable to watch... however, i completely agree that it's more fun to actually PLAY... because watching it on tv eliminates the whole idea behind the 'game'

trying to read your opponents, running through all possible hands, statistics, bets, actions... it's really not an easy game.

but, watching it on tv, you know what everyone has... making it a whole lot less involved. on that note though, if you really did just sit and watch them play cards with no commentary or without knowing who's got the better hand...

...that would be worse than what it already is. ;)

Yeah... cause no tv is better than watching SOMETHING when you're stuck at work with nothing else to do when you've completed everything you need to do and still have an hour to close, right?

lol th ere was a great article in an old Sports Illustrated about this poker fad. This man goes off saying how its not a legit "sport" no athletic ability is required to play, and most of the people on there have a blood pressure and cholesterol level higher than the average household lol. He goes on to say how its teaching our kids the art of gambling and all that stuff (that i dont really agree with too much), but if you look at it, these guys arent like role models or anything to look up to. One guy at last years final table was a college kid who played on the internet for 3 months before entering, and it was his first tournament.... lame.

I predict Raymer or Moneymaker.

The tourny already took place so I'm sure we could find results if we wanted.

My girlfriend's ex won a seat at the '05 WSOP off of party poker but didn't turn 21 until a month after the tournament. He didn't cash in the voucher so he plans on going to next year's WSOP and playing his free seat.

As much as I hate the kid, even though I've never actually spoken with him, he took 112th place out of 2000 people for a 100,000 tourny that he played on party poker. He's also up about 10,000 from playing for real money online.

As to the asshole comments about watching the game, its interesting if you understand the game.

Watching someone perfectly execute a slow play trap or trap someone with check raise is like watching a grand slam. Watching someone who's played tight all day, pull the biggest bluff you've ever seen with a blank stare on his face and no motion in his eyes is also like watching a hole in one.

Most of the guys who play are geniuses. Its a mind game. Watching someone play exquisitely play this mind game isn't boring if you're a true fan of the game and love it.

So to the naysayers, I kindly say fuck you. Go watch a 4hour game of baseball, that has less action than poker.

i play 3 times a week and i have about a grand in my absolutepoker.com account. I worked it from 50 bucks. I really like playing poker but i am not about to throw away my life's earnings ( not savings because i cant save :) ). i know when to quit before shit gets deep.

I don't get cable, so screw espn...
but i do watch WPT on the travel channel when it's on and nothing else is on.

i don't watch it to be entertained-- i watch it to learn the game better. you can learn a lot by watching the pros.

me, personally, i love playing hold'em. I wish I played more with different people. online poker doesn't do much for me... its not the same game.

i enjoy playing poker a lot.. i use to play about twice a week but now i don't play as much cuz of work... i think Phil H. is going to win. I find it interesting to watch.. i guess cuz i know the feeling, plus sometime u learn some stuff from watching them play (how to play some hands)

E, i absolutely love your posts, lol.

i dont fully agree, but that was funny.

i play online for kicks because i'm usually alone after work. and i never play for real money... play money, play environment. real money, real faces. it really isn't the same game at all... but i'm sure playing for real money is a bit different than the play money tables.

every week my brother holds parties where we all play together, small buy ins, free alcohol, and home cooked food.. and about once every 3 months he'll have a huge sh-bang with a big big buy in to make the first place winner very comfy.

i'd love to play more with different people too... it really can round out your play. i agree it's turning into a huge fad, but, that doesn't mean people weren't playing it forever.

i wouldn't call it a sport either... because it's not... it's a game. much like chess. which is also televised. :lmao:

eh, watching poker is kind of boring although an interesting habit ive picked up from my uncle is watching people play blackjack when i go into a casino. Of course it sounds kind of boring (ill admit its more fun to play), it is interesting (to me) to watch how people will play and try and guess how they will fare.

Of course this is just proof positive that just about anything can be made interesting.

Hell Back in the 1800's early 1900's poker was a real mans game...., guns at your side at the table...and a bottle of whiskey for a companion during the game..man could get killed playing poker.....
