TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Mazda Motor Corp. (7261.TO) said it still doesn't know the extent of damage to cars carried on a listing cargo ship, taking on water off Alaska.
The 654-foot Cougar Ace, which was carrying about 4,700 cars from Japan to Canada and the U.S., had rolled practically onto its side Monday about 230 miles from Adak Island, Alaska, in the Aleutians.
Mazda said it still doesn't know the damage to its cars, which include its Mazda3 model. It is still unclear what caused the ship to founder.
A spokeswoman for Mitsui O.S.K Lines Ltd. (9104.TO), which operates the cargo vessel, said the company is planning to tug the cargo ship to a port. She added that the company doesn't know the monetary impact from the accident.
