Clutch Won't Engage

My clutch won't engage and allow me to shift into gear. I cut down the bracket to shorten it up some but it still didn't work. even after adjusting it all the way up and all the way down. what else should I do? if I get a 90 integra clutch cable will it still work with the shortened cable bracket? please help, this is all I need to do to get my crx on the road.

Okay well this is far fetched but from my experiences when I've had clutch problems it could be;

That you need a new cable for your cable tranny

or

you need a new master/slave cylinder for your clutch
